FL House Bill 893, currently moving through the Florida Legislature, poses a serious threat to our industry. If passed, this bill would eliminate lien rights for subcontractors, suppliers, and other parties once the general contractor has been paid in full — regardless of whether downstream contractors have received payment.

 

While this bill may be well-intentioned to prevent double payments by property owners, it will dismantle the core protections that ensure everyone on a project gets paid for their work. This is an attack on fair business practices and the financial security of our construction workforce.
